In 2025, the Hanguk Kiwon faced controversy for implementing temporary rules that were deemed unreasonable and unclear. These included instructions for referees to pause games to give additional time to Korean players in deep time trouble. As a result, the fairness of the titles won by Korean players in tournaments organized by the Hanguk Kiwon in recent years has also come under scrutiny.
